Brooke’s Youth Assembly Experience

Hi,
I’m Brooke! Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of being part of
the Youth Assembly. I applied because I wanted to ensure young people’s voices
are taken seriously in decisions that affect us, not just ticked off, but
genuinely heard and acted on.

Being a Youth Assembly Member gave me a platform to speak up, to learn, and to
grow. I’ve always felt passionate about issues like mental health support and
making sure every young person feels seen and heard. Through this role, I’ve
had the chance to bring those passions into real conversations.

Over the last two years, I’ve developed so many skills. I’ve learned how to
research issues deeply, speak up with confidence, work in teams, and
communicate even with people who might not agree with me. I’ve presented to
politicians, spoken at committee meetings, and had conversations I never
would’ve imagined having two years ago.

The Youth Assembly also helped me grow personally. I’ve become more confident,
more outspoken, and developed a better understanding of the world around me.
I’ve also learned how to listen to others to understand where others are coming
from and to find ways to work together, even when we have different views. I’ve
grown in resilience, responsibility, and self-belief.

I’m proud of what we have done, and even more proud of how much I’ve learned
along the way. Being part of the Youth Assembly has shaped how I see the world
and my place in it.

If you’re thinking of getting involved – do it! It’s a chance to speak up, be
taken seriously, and grow in ways you don’t expect. Your voice really does
matter.
