Participating in the Youth Assembly was one of the most
memorable and transformative experiences I’ve had.

From the very beginning, it was more than just a group of
young people gathering to talk about issues… it was a space where we were empowered, heard, and given the tools to genuinely make a difference.

What made the experience so fun and enjoyable was the energy
and enthusiasm shared among everyone involved. There was a real sense of community, and it didn’t take long to form strong friendships with other participants. We were all from different backgrounds, but united by a passion to create change and speak up for what we believe in. The fun moments from the icebreakers to late-night brainstorming sessions all balanced perfectly with the more serious, purpose-driven work we did.

On a personal level, the Youth Assembly was incredibly useful and impactful for my development. I gained practical skills that I know will benefit me in all areas of life. One of the biggest things I took away was confidence in public speaking. Having the opportunity to share my views not only with peers but with actual decision makers helped me grow so much. I learned how to clearly present my ideas, answer questions, and engage in real dialogue with people in power. We also got involved in more technical and professional skill-building, such as creating surveys, participating in media work, and learning how to craft messages that resonate. These are tools that extend beyond politics or youth advocacy and are applicable in everyday life, education, and future careers.

What stood out the most was how we were genuinely listened
to. Often, young people are invited to “consultation” spaces where their ideas are noted and forgotten. This was different. The decision makers we met through the Youth Assembly actually valued our input they asked us questions, took notes, and came back to us to show how our feedback was being implemented. That sense of being heard and taken seriously made the experience not just meaningful, but empowering. Beyond the learning and the impact, there was something truly special about the connections we built not just with each other, but with the politicians and adult allies who supported us. These relationships continue beyond the Youth Assembly and open up doors for future collaboration and advocacy.

All in all, my time at the Youth Assembly wasn’t just a fun
two years, it was a stepping stone in my personal growth and a spark that’s inspired me to stay engaged, speak up, and keep pushing for change.
