On Saturday 19th October we all came together as a Youth Assembly for our third plenary at Parliament Buildings. Our day began with an informative media training workshop led by BBC NI Political correspondent, Jayne McCormack. We learned so many tips and tricks on how to improve our interview skills and what to say or avoid in interviews. At the end of the morning some of us got to stand up and conduct mini interviews with each other and it was very enjoyable to watch! A few of us even got the opportunity to be interviewed by UTV and were on television.

After this, we all gathered for lunch in the Long Gallery. As always, there was a huge variety of delicious food to choose from and I’m sure my fellow Youth Assembly members enjoyed it just as much as I did. During lunch we were also joined by a number of MLAs who listened to our thoughts and opinions on the proposition to ban phones in school and other important topics.

Our day finished strongly with a debate in the chamber chaired by Deputy Speaker John Blair MLA on the Education Minister’s proposed guidance on phones in schools and it was thrilling and thought-provoking to say the least. We all had the opportunity to share our opinions on such a relevant issue and it was very interesting to hear the viewpoints of others YAMs.

All of us had an amazing day and can’t wait to meet again at Parliament Buildings in the future!
